Episode 176: Aliens, Clowns, & Geeks (2019)

Hello everybody, and welcome to Indie Film Cafe, where we are no strangers to the weird, wonderful, whackadoodle world of Richard Elfman – and given that today’s newest episode involves his 2019 film Aliens, Clowns, & Geeks, you know the Indie Film Cafe kids are gonna be geared up to yap! Check out Moody, the MooCow, and special guest co-host Jolynn (“just call me Jo!”) as they navigate the nuttiness that is this film!
:=8D

Oooooh, baby, you know what’s coming!!! ;=8)

Now we here at IFC love moovies with aliens, we love moovies with clowns, and we loves us some moovies with geeks – ok, maybe not Geek Maggot Bingo, but it was close! – but to have a moovie with ALL THREE of those in it? GIMME GIMME GIMMEE!!!! Plus the film has a whole stable of Elfmen (Richard, Bodhi, & Anastasia!!), as well as George Wendt, French Stewart, Rebecca Forsythe, Angeline Rose-Troy, AND Vern Troyer!! Now that is just a faboo cast – and cowsidering this is the guy who gave the world the Forbidden Zone, Shrunken Heads (already covered on IFC!), AND the goofy, fun 80’s band Oingo Boingo, cow cud you go wrong??

Oh yeah, its a madcap party of a flick!

So what’s it all about? Well, interestingly enough, the moovie was originally titled Hipsters, Gangsters, Aliens and Geeks, if that gives you an idea of where this film is going – which is every which way at once! But I guess someone was like, dude, you gotta add clowns, of course! And RE was like hell yeah! Anyway, Bodhi Elfman portrays Eddie Pine, an down on his luck, unemployed actor who’s having some bad times – until he runs into a pair of hottie drones sent down by a bunch of masturbating green aliens on a spaceship – you know, as you do. And after his little fun evening with the pair of them he gives birth (!!) to a black metal object from his butt hole – again, as you do. COWEVER, to cowplicate matters, that same butt object is wanted by the ever-terrible, ever-tiny Emperor Beezel-Chugg, leader of the EVIL CLOWN ALIENS, so Eddie and Jumbo, his huge trans brother/sister have to vamoose before they get caught. Also there is a group of Chinese gangsters also looking for the thingy, and shenanigans and heads flying, in the best Richard Elfman tradition, ensues. Plus there is a way fun soundtrack. I mean, shit, what else cud you want?? ;=8)

Who is going to mess with Emperor Beezle-Chugg? Not dis cow!! :=8o

if yer looking for a fun, zany flick that has absolutely no fracks to give, has fantastic moosic, crazy visuals, and a bevy of cuties, look no further! The whole herd enjoyed this film, and Richard Elfman proves once again that his moovies are like no one else in the indie film world – and that’s a good thing! Lucky folks at the Valley Film Festival in 2021 got to see this AND the director’s cut of the Forbidden Zone back to back as a drive-in double feature that the MooCow would have sold his spots to have attended! If yer in the moody for whackadoodle WTF indie fun that’s right up there with the likes of Neil Breen and the Greasy Strangler, then this is your cup of straaange tea! I know it sure is mine! ;=8)

It aint easy being green…and horny

Well the votes are in and AC&G gets a total Stink Score of 10 – that’s a 3 from Moody, a 3.5 from the MooCow, and a 3.5 from Jolynn, for a super low score! That’s a Stinky Average of only 3.3; on the Ladder of Stink this film is tied with Sledgehammers at Dawn, and not much else!
